WHAT IS GRACE?
Grace is a word that gets thrown around quite a bit in Christian circles, but what does it really mean? In the most basic sense, grace is getting what you do not deserve. In a Christian context, it is a little bit more than just getting what you don’t deserve. Since the fall of man (Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit) humans have been born into sin. It says in Romans 3:23-24 that “all have fallen short of the glory of the glory of God.” We live for ourselves, and reject God as an idea, a person, and most of all as an eternal power. Because we are sinful, and have rejected the way God wants us to live, we were destined to go to hell. We are imperfect, which meant we could not be with God for eternity in heaven. However, God wants us to be with Him, and he desires a relationship with us. In order for us to be reunited with God, he sent His son Jesus, as a sacrifice for our sins. Through Jesus, we get to be in relationship with God. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We did not deserve to have Jesus come and die on our behalf but because of Gods love for us, he made it possible for us to be with him for eternity. It is undeserved, but we still receive it.
WHY IS GRACE IMPORTANT?
Grace is important because it is the basis of our salvation. Without grace, we would all fall short of the glory of God, and get what we truly deserve. Grace the idea of getting what we dont deserve, but its also an action. By sending Jesus down, God acted on the most important act of Grace the world has ever seen.
Some Verses to Reflect On:
Ephesians 2:8–9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
John 1:16–17 - For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians 15:10 - But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
