God
WHO IS GOD?
People have been asking this question forever! Who is God? Is God real? What is God like? While I won’t be able to answer every question asked about God, I can at least set you up to start answering those questions for yourself. So, who is God? God is a sovereign deity that we will never be able to fully understand in our time on earth. Sounds really hopeful right? Through the bible we can get some description of who God is, and what he does.
God is the creator. The first depiction we get of God is the creator of the universe. He made everything, even mosquitoes. This puts God in a place of sovereignty or power, because he created the whole universe. Since he created it, he owns it and gets to do whatever he wants with it. In the first book of the bible we read that God is timeless, he has always existed. With this information God is eternal, and all powerful.
God has character. We can get to know what God is like because of the way he acts. He is incomparable, because no one can understand his power. He is merciful because he loves us even though we disobey him. He is unchanging and he is consistent, never wavering in his views. He knows everything and is all powerful. God is Holy and perfect. He can do no wrong, and is always just. He is the ultimate judge, but he is a merciful one.
God is a father. Although God is all powerful and mighty, he doesn’t use his powers to force us into submission to Him. He allows us the freewill to choose his way instead of the ways of the world. God cares for us and loves us. He wants the best for us and provides for us. He wants to be with us and to have us know him. God is protecting and does not want us to suffer. He offers true freedom that is life giving and complete.
WHY IS GOD IMPORTANT?
God is important because he is what life's all about. Without God, we are meaningless creatures who live only to die. God gives us purpose, real love, and a way to make sense of the world we live in. With God, we have a foundation and a lens that we can use to understand people. With God, we are loved and accepted, wanted and cared for. God is important because he is our Father. He is eternal and powerful. God offers us a relationship with Him that lasts forever. God is important because if we believe in Him, we get to have a relationship with Him forever!
Verses for you to reflect on:
Joshua 1:9 - Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Deuteronomy 4:29 - But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
1 John 4:19 - We love because He first loved us.
Revelation 1:8 - “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
1 Timothy 1:17 - Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
